Elvira is a distinctive and elegant wine produced in the Priorat wine region, Catalonia, Spain. This wine is a creation of the Cims de Porrera winery, which has managed to capture the essence of the Priorat terroir, known for its llicorella (slate) soils and its Mediterranean climate. These unique natural conditions contribute to the production of wines with notable minerality, complexity and structure.
Elvira is predominantly made from the native grape varieties Garnacha (Grenache) and Cariñena (Carignan). Grenache gives the wine a rich palette of ripe red fruits, softness and a floral touch, while Cariñena adds vibrant acidity, firm tannins and structural depth that balances the blend. This combination of grapes results in a balanced and expressive wine, which faithfully reflects the character of Priorat.
In the glass, Elvira shows a deep cherry red color with violet reflections, indicative of its concentration and youth. On the nose, it displays a complex range of aromas, with a predominance of red and black fruits such as cherries, blackberries and plums. These are complemented by spicy notes of black pepper, clove and vanilla, as well as subtle nuances of Mediterranean herbs, cocoa and a characteristic mineral touch of slate floor.
On the palate, Elvira is a powerful and well-structured wine, with a silky texture and present but perfectly integrated tannins. The balanced acidity provides freshness, making the flavors of ripe fruits, spices and minerality stand out with clarity and depth. The finish is long and persistent, leaving a lasting impression of elegance and sophistication.
Elvira's winemaking includes a rigorous selection of grapes, harvested by hand at their optimal point of ripeness. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, followed by aging in French oak barrels for 12 to 18 months, depending on the vintage. This oak aging adds layers of complexity and softens the tannins, enhancing the wine's inherent characteristics.
Elvira is an ideal wine to accompany red meat dishes, game, stews and cured cheeses. Its robustness and complexity make it an excellent option for special occasions and for those looking for a high-quality and memorable wine experience in Priorat.
