Marge is a standout wine from the Priorat wine region in Catalonia, Spain, made by the Celler de l'Encastell winery. This wine captures the essence of Priorat, known for its llicorella (slate) soils and Mediterranean climate, elements that contribute to the creation of wines with distinctive minerality and robust structure.
Made from a careful blend of indigenous and classic Priorat grape varieties, Marge includes Garnacha (Grenache), Cariñena (Carignan), Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot. Grenache provides a rich palette of red fruits and softness, while Cariñena adds vibrant acidity and firm tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot complement the blend with structure, complexity and depth, resulting in a balanced and expressive wine.
To the eye, Marge presents a deep ruby red color with purple highlights, indicative of her youth and concentration. On the nose, it offers a complex range of aromas where ripe red and black fruits such as cherries, blackberries and plums predominate. These aromas are complemented by spicy notes of black pepper and clove, as well as subtle hints of Mediterranean herbs, cocoa and a distinctive slate minerality.
On the palate, Marge is a powerful and well-structured wine, with present but soft tannins, and balanced acidity that provides freshness. The flavors reflect the aromas, with a rich concentration of ripe fruits, spices and a minerality that adds depth and persistence. The finish is long and elegant, leaving a lasting impression of sophistication and balance.
Marge's winemaking involves meticulous selection of grapes, harvested by hand at their optimal point of ripeness. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, followed by aging in French oak barrels for 12 to 18 months, depending on the vintage. This oak aging adds layers of complexity and helps soften the tannins, enhancing the wine's inherent characteristics.
Marge is ideal to accompany a variety of dishes, including red meats, game, stews and aged cheeses. Its robustness and complexity make it an excellent option for special occasions and for those who appreciate high-quality wines from Priorat, offering a memorable and sophisticated wine experience.
